In its 34th year, the annual MD&M East conference is being held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in NYC, and Acorn will be exhibiting there, booth #469.

This year’s conference is highlighted by its Design and Product Development education tracks, offering a variety of venues (presentations, workshops, panels, case studies) with speakers and participants from the world’s leading medical device companies.

This year’s expo is combined with five additional expo’s (EastPack, ATX East, Atlantic Design & Manufacturing, PLASTEC East, and Quality Expo), providing attendees with an end-to-end perspective of technologies and companies that can help you turn your medical device idea into reality.

The keynote speaker will be Steve “Woz” Wozniak, co-founder of Apple and Chief Scientist at Primary Data. A noted visionary with a broad business and technical background, he will cover topics at the intersection of his passions and trends in the advanced manufacturing industry, including innovation and creativity, robotics and automation, wearables, Big Data, the Internet of Things and more.

You may not be aware that Acorn has worked with Apple over the years, and Acorn’s founder, Ken Haven, was Steve Job's Director of Mechanical Engineering when Steve was CEO of NeXT Computing (Apple is also on the list of Acorn clients). If you’d like to know what it was like to work for Steve, see Ken’s blog “Designing for a tough critic: Stephen P. Jobs ( Ken’s experience in working for Steve has influenced Acorn’s focus on quality of design and design for manufacturability, both of which are critical factors in designing any products, but particularly medical devices.

Acorn’s booth will highlight several medical and laboratory instrument products we have developed over the years for our clients, including:

In addition, we’ll also be exhibiting the Robotex Avatar Robot, which Acorn engineered for Robotex. The Avatar is a tactical robot for first responders that is a lightweight, affordable solution for municipalities and government agencies to allow them to safely and quickly inspect dangerous situations.

Of course, Acorn personnel will be on hand to meet and talk with you about your particular needs and our capabilities.
